Tamil Nadu is one of the popular states in India for pursuing B.Tech. There are around 560 engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu, which offer diverse specialisations in Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) or B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology). Directorate of Technical Education (Tamil Nadu) is responsible for conducting centralised and online counselling process for B.Tech in Tamil Nadu. B. Tech admission process in Tamil Nadu is called TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions).

Counselling Process

Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Tamil Nadu will start counselling process in July 2021. The student must register and pay for the counselling process. Students can exercise the choice-filling option for round 1 in the second week of July 2021, and for round 2, from the third week of July 2021. Round 1 seat allotment result is usually released in the second week of July itself and round 2 results are declared in the third week of July. TNEA will conduct four rounds of counselling and seat allotment.

The entire TNEA counselling process involves different stages, and the same can be checked below:

Registration: Candidates will have to open the TNEA website to register for the counselling process. For registration purpose, the candidates need a valid E-Mail ID and Mobile Number. At this step, the candidates must enter other details such as Religion, Nativity, and Address for Communication etc. The login id and password will be generated after the submission of the above details.

Candidates who do not have internet facility must visit the nearest facilitation centre for registration with all the details, documents and counselling fee.

Application Fee Payment: The candidates must pay the TNEA application fee to take part in the counselling process. The TNEA application fee for reserved categories is Rs. 250 and Rs. 500 for General category.

The TNEA application fee can be paid in online mode by using Credit/ Debit Card/ Internet Banking. Candidates who are present at the facilitation centre can pay the application fee to the officer. After fee payment, an online receipt will be generated.

Application Form Filling: TNEA online application form will be activated after the counselling fee payment. Here, the candidates must fill academic and personal details. If you are present at the facilitation centre, please carry all the academic certifications so that it will help the computer operator to fill all the details in the application form.

Application Submission: Check the details entered in the online application form before clicking on the ‘Submit’ button. If you are sure that all the details entered in the application form are correct, submit and take the printout of the application form.

Random Number: A random number will be generated after the submission of the application. Candidates can check the random number on the printout copy of application form. The random number will be useful during the certificate verification process and tie-breaking.

Verification of Certificates: Candidates who submit TNEA online application form must be present at the nearest facilitation centre for certificate verification. The candidates must report to the centre first and register their names along with random numbers. The candidates will be called accordingly for certificate verification. It is mandatory to carry all the required documents for certificate verification. The admission authority will confirm the details of candidates only after the certificate verification.

Declaration of Merit/ Rank List: With a few days after the completion of the certificate verification process, TNEA authority will release a merit/ rank list that comprises the name of the candidates, category, rank, and normalised score. Candidates who feature in TNEA merit/ rank list are allowed to take part in choice entry/ option entry process.

Online Choice Filling/ Option Entry: The candidates must log in to the TNEA website and fill the option entry form. The list of colleges, cutoff, opening, and closing ranks will be published on the official website, and the candidates are advised to fill the options only after referring the cutoff and ranks (opening and closing ranks) of colleges. It is advisable to fill the maximum number of options to improve the chances of securing admission. (Please refer admission procedure section for more details).

Counselling Procedure

Step I- Registration and Payment of Fee for Counselling

  1. Enter your COMEDK Login details in the Applicant Login ID.
  2. Click on ‘Counselling Registration’ Tab. 
  3. Check your details and pay a fee of INR 5000.
  4. Upload all mandatory documents for verification.
  5. When the screen shows ‘successful payment’, log in to your account again to participate in Counselling

Step II- Option Entry and Locking

  1. After successful payment, login and click on ‘Option Entry’
  2. Select whether you want to make a choice based on the list of colleges or courses.
  3. Click on ‘Add Preference’. Make sure that the college and course you select appears under ‘Selected Preferences’.
  4. Ensure that you select the college and course in order of your preference.
  5. Click on the ‘Save’ button to add your preference.
  6. Click on ‘Preview’ to see your selected choices. If you wish to remove any course or college from the list, click on the ‘remove’ button available on the right-hand side of each choice.
  7. Once you’re satisfied with your preference list, click on save and take a print out for future reference.

Step III- COMEDK Mock Allotment

On the basis of preferences entered in Step II, candidates will be allotted seats. They will have the option to change their preferences during Mock Allotment.

  • Log in to your account and click on ‘Counselling Process’
  • Check your allotted college, course and preference number.
  • If you wish to make any changes to your list, click on ‘Option Entry’ and add, remove or reorder your preferences.
  • Once you’re done, click on ‘Save’ and take a print out for future reference.

Step IV- Allotment of Seats

Seat Allotment will be done on the basis of the candidate’s rank in COMEDK Merit List and the preferences submitted during online counselling and Mock Allotment. The offline Counselling will be held in Bangalore where the final seat allotment will be done. Students must be prepared for the following at the COMEDK counselling venue.

  • Submission and Verification of documents
  • Registration of candidates that includes Biometric Verification, Signature, Photo verification and issuance of registration slip.
  • Seat Allocation
  • Depositing the Demand Draft
  • Collection of Allotment Letter and Fee Receipt

Note- No duplicate allotment letter will be issued under any situation. Therefore, it is important to keep the Allotment Letter carefully. If the allotment letter issued to the applicant is found tampered, then the competent authority can cancel such allotment.

Step V- Post Seat Allotment choices for the Candidates

Candidates have 4 options after they have been allotted seats.

  • Accept- In this case, they will not be eligible for the second round of counselling. They will have to pay INR 50,000 to confirm the seat allotted and report to the allotted college for verification of documents.
  • Accept and Upgrade- In this case, they will be eligible for the second round of counselling. They will have to pay INR 50,000 to confirm the seat allotted and report to the allotted college for verification of documents. If higher preferences are not available, then the seat allotted in the first round will be retained.
  • Reject and Upgrade- Seat allotted in the first round must be given up to take part in the second round of counselling. They will have to pay INR 50,000 to confirm the seat allotted in round 2 and report to the allotted college for verification of documents.
  • Reject and Withdraw- In this case, the candidate will give up the seat allotted in 1st round and will be ineligible for further rounds of counselling.

Step VI- Document Verification & Allotment Letter

  • This step is only for those students who have selected the ‘Accept’ option after 1st round of counselling.
  • Download the Verification Entry Card from ‘Documents required for Verification’ tab in the COMEDK Login.
  • Once the candidates have got their documents verified, they will receive the Original Allotment Letter from the venue of document verification.
  • They are required to report to the allotted college within the time period stipulated in the letter.

HSC (Class 12) Hall Ticket

    • Class 10 & 12 Mark Sheet
    • Transfer Certificate (TC)
    • Category Certificate (only for reserved categories)
    • Nativity Certificate (only for some students – refer eligibility criteria section)

Admission Procedure

  • It is very important for a candidate to surrender their seat during the specified dates to get a fee refund after deduction of INR 5000 (Administrative Expenses).
  • Students can Check out the Seat Surrender Procedure to get acquainted with the process. The refunded amount will be given as a crossed A/c payee cheque in the name of the candidate only.
  • Students are required to bring the original allotment letter for COMEDK, Bank receipt and Verification card received by them.
  • A candidate may be required to get all original documents verified at the time of counselling, and the Transfer Certificate and Migration Certificate at the college level during admission.

 

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates are eligible to apply for admission through TNEA if they are:

  • Tamil Nadu candidates who have passed their Class VIII to Class XII standard in Tamil Nadu.
  • Children of Central Government Employees, irrespective of their nativity, provided their parents or guardians (only if both parents are not alive) have been serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past five years at the time of TNEA application form submission.
  • Sons/daughters of All India Service Tamil Nadu cadre officers.
  • Children of employees in the Public Sector or Government recognised institutions who at the times of TNEA 2021 application form submission had been working in their organisations for the past five years are also eligible to apply, irrespective of their domicile.
  • Other state candidates who have studied from Class VIII to Class XII in Tamil Nadu can also apply for TNEA 2021.
  • Tamil Nadu native candidates who have passed any of the VIII, IX, X, XI and XII standards or their equivalent examinations from schools situated outside Tamil Nadu can also apply for TNEA.
